Inernal Inquiry or Witch Hunt? Back in June 2008, we reported on the following deal that was reported in Building.co.uk
“Morgan Sindall finished in sixth spot with wins that included a £22.3m housing deal with Telford and Wrekin council.”
We expressed concern that this deal was linked to the £23 million set aside for the Conservatives “Borough Town Initiative”
As The Conservative Leader has already handled his first “Eade Bay” Sale and made a complete mess of it, which was followed by a budget mess with offices on St.Georges Industrial estate which saw the sale of a car park to fill the budget short fall, it became clear that they are not the people to handle regeneration of the borough.
Not only is the Borough town Initiatives at risk because of the global economy problems, but this also impacts on the Telford Town Centre which insiders tell me is going completely pear shaped.
Further problems will also hit the sale of the Council HQ.
The Conservative Administration were warned months ago about the economy and they had to express every caution with asset sales, but unfortunately, they got to excited and now its going to bite them on the backside big style.
When the next elections come around, the Conservatives will be running a campaign of excuses, excuses as to why they failed on many topics, but increased the cost of living to pensioners and carers, yet managed to increase there allowances.
The Council need to stop their regeneration plans as this is not the time to sell, but then again, when you are operating with tax payers money and vote to give yourself huge allowance increases, it clearly displays the Tories approach.
Hit the poorest, reward themselves.
Housing Summit
This remains a very quiet topic with MP David Wright failing to keep his word again, despite putting it in writing.
MP Mark Pritchard has said nothing about Housing, Social Housing, Homelessness.
Wannebe MP Tom Biggins promised to meet me, but has failed to keep his word.
A series of let downs. Again.
TELFORD TOWN PARK
This issue is far from asleep. We know that Council officers wanted lone adults stopped and checked, but do not hold any CRB information about the 25 organizations they allow to use Telford Town Park, giving them access to young people, arrange events, hand out leaflets, etc.
Why do they allow it?
Because its policy.
Internal Inquiry
We all know that Senior Officers allowed a letter to be sent out about checking lone adults which has led to wide spread condemnation of the policy. It was also clear that someone would be a fall guy.
We can now confirm that a person within the Council is subject to an Internal Inquiry that is being conducted by an internal auditor.
The Leader and his deputy have already turned on one of their colleagues, refusing them access to an external inquiry and quite frankly, this smacks more of a witch hunt and not anything “Independent” or remotely associated with fairness.
I have had a number of telephone calls from Council Staff saying how this Inquiry stinks, it is not fair and a decision has already been made, now they just want to prove it in anyway possible.
Why does The Leader and Chief Executive want a lid kept on this, from I have been told, its because they do not want this site to know about it, therefore aim to keep it out of the public eye.
We pay and should have a say.
We pay and should know what is happening.
Telford and Wrekin Council have floundered from disaster to the next and keep doing it.
