You may recall the recent Story entitled “No Mans Land” which was talking about West Mercia Police and Telford Wrekin Councils approach to safety of young people outside school.
As explained, last year two of my children suffered a serious assault that West Mercia Police refused to deal with and Telford Wrekin Council do not have an effective generic policy as guidance for parents and / or guardians.
The area outside schools is without any shadow of doubt a “No Mans Land” where young people can be assaulted with neither Telford and Wrekin Council or West Mercia Police taking ownership of what is a problem area.
The Sutherland School now appears back on radar and so do West Mercia Police.
Schools have a great number of policies of which the parent / guardian have great difficulty in getting to see, but the education system are masters at using them against a family, child or sometimes both.
Every parent now needs to be made aware of the fact that :-
“If your child is assaulted at school West Mercia Police do not want to know”
When you go to the control centre on 08457 444 888 and report an assault that has occurred to a young person on school premises, the Police will tell you it is the responsibility of the school.
Fine, if you have faith in the school and believe they will enforce policy evenly across the board, which of course is not always the case.
A representative from the education department has told me that parents should have full access to school rules beyond those briefly outlined in the school prospectus.
Every parent should be extremely concerned at the lack of safety and the lack of ownership over an extremely serious problem that Telford and Wrekin Council and West Mercia Police do not want to take ownership of.
I will be writing formally to The Leader of the Council, both MP’s, the Police on what is a serious issue and only see parents being passed from pillar to post.
A Police officer said to me quite recently,
“The Sutherland has a very big rug they sweep things under”
I would suggest that West Mercia Police, The Sutherland and Telford and Wrekin Council share the same rug.
I would like to know, which of our elected members are prepared to take this issue on, something needs to be done before a young person really suffers through the ineptitude of the authorities.
