Telford Council Watch has created a Petition against the closure of Post Offices throughout the borough of Telford and Wrekin.

The Petition reads

We, the undersigned, support Telford Council Watch and their campaign to stop any further Post Office closures in Telford.

Post Offices are vital Community Resource.

Many people use their local post office on a very regular basis for things like

Paying Bills
Getting Stamps
Getting Car Tax
Posting Letters and Parcels

And see the great benefit that is received through Post office use by many community members of differing age groups.

For some people, the Post Office provides a Social venue were they meet others on a regular basis they could otherwise loose contact with.

The Post Office has gone beyond being a business but has become a valuable community resource playing a vital role in peoples lives.

SAVE OUR POST OFFICES FROM CLOSURE

This Petition Will Be Delivered to the Prime Minister Gordon Brown at
10 Downing street.

I have been looking at Telford Council Watch for a while now and I think it is a
great site. However, I do think it's pretty biased against Labour - sometimes
with reason and sometimes without.

I live in Dawley and our post office is
well used. But not all of them are. If people don't use a service, then it dies.
It is no good saying we must keep them open at all cost because that 'cost' is
met by the taxpayer and not some mystery pot of money. If the Conservatives in
Telford are serious about keeping the post offices open then why don't they
commit to underwriting the losses made by small post offices locally. They won't
do that because they know it would simply put the council tax up, but they are
happy to pass the blame onto central Government and then blame them for high
taxes.

I think this is just political opportunism and it saddens me!

The contributor from Dawley appears to think this site is biased against New
Labour. Actually the site is no more biased against N.l. than any other party
but it is N.l that has been in power about twenty -eight years in Telford and
for ten years nationally. The so called party of the people has already closed
hundreds of post offices and continues to do so while using evasion and cant.

Naturally the Dawley man is in support of his post office but wants others
closed. Surely he is not another N.l. man like David Wright who is content to
see closures but has started a petition on his own patch saying it is all the
fault of the Tories that offices are closing.i

IT'S LIKE THE SCHOOL PLAYING
FIELDS CON TRICK. WE KNOW THAT THE TORIES STARTED BUILDING ON THE FIELDS. N.L.
GOT POWER SAYING IT WOULD STOP THIS AND THEN CLOSED EVEN MORE FIELDS. OR LIKE
THE HOUSING FIASCO WHICH THE TORIES STARTED BUT N.L CARRIED FORWARD TO THE POIN...
