To Busy To Keep His Word

In 2006 Telford Council Watch started a Campaign to try and influence the sad state of Social Housing within Telford and Wrekin, after meeting with MP David Wright a Housing Summit was promised.

For a period of no less than two years Telford Council Watch maintained steady pressure on MP David Wright and other MP’s which eventually brought about the Housing Summit in November 2008.

MP David Wright and his office were highly praised for their efforts in arranging the housing Summit that involved many partners, but saw the Conservative leader Andrew Eade and his party ignore.

However, we progressed further.

The Housing Summit was held, MP Ian Wright promised a visit to Sutton Hill saying to me,

“John, you and I will walk around Sutton hill together”

MP David Wright promised the report from the Telford Housing Summit would be ready by February 2009.

Telford Council Watch gave some grace and said the report is more likely to be ready by March 2009.

As the borough sees a continued lack of Social Housing, an increasing Housing Waiting list and we rapidly approach July 2009, the report from the Telford Housing Summit remains unactioned.

This is despite the fact that Telford Council Watch offered its support and said that if there was any problems, we would have the report typed up at our own cost and at NO COST TO THE TAX PAYER.

In March 2009, a member of MP David Wrights office contacted myself about a face book campaign and asked for some assistance which I promptly actioned.

I was advised that people were ready to start a pissing competition.

On the 18th March 2009 MP David Wright emails me to advise that he was working on the draft housing summit report, I remained patient.

However, we are now at a point were MP David Wright is not returning communication about this vital topic that he was so happy to take the credit for.

MP David Wright has now excepted additional responsibilities and always manages to complete every allowance claim in full and on time, yet, once again he seems to be turning his back on the vital topic of Social Housing.

This topic is going to affect many generations, more residents are in need of housing, the Council want to invest in Telford Town centre, yet

COUNCILLOR ANDREW EADE

MP MARK PRITCHARD

Have completely ignored the topic and once again

MP DAVID WRIGHT HAS FAILED TO KEEP HIS PROMISE.

MP IAN WRIGHT HAS FAILED TO MAINTAIN HIS PROMISE

I’ll make a promise to MP David Wright now,

“If you do not keep the promise you have made to the Borough, I will be taking direct action”

This is one pissing contest you do not want to get into. If I have to take direct action, I will and soon.

I am not surprised that the aforementioned Housing report hasn't materialised. I have always been of the opinion that politicians in the main pay lip service to pressure regarding affordable local housing, but in reality take little action.

The old order (pushing people to buy) is no longer viable, and in Telford people do not earn big bucks, the pay is fairly low unless in a profession.

When will they have the courage to really try and change the situation, and stop going through the motions.

I say good luck John, and I don't live in T&W anymore, I am now under the new Shropshire (unitary) authority :-( But I will support you any way I can.

I am not suprised. The likes of Cllr Plenderleith won't understand things like this because social housing is not on his genda, he thinks the users of this site are a bunch on whingers. But this issue has to be pushed.
