The Telford housing Summit is rapidly approaching and I must take the opportunity to thank MP David Wright, Cllr Richard Overton and their colleagues for the hard work they have put into arranging this.

Many agencies and residents will be coming together to work on this vital topic, whilst we will attend pre meetings and the Housing Summit, it is only fair to acknowledge the sterling efforts and hard work put into arranging it and I offer my most sincere thanks for this work.

We have to be honest and say there will be NO quick fix, not only because of the current financial climate, but also because of many wide ranging and far reaching issues.

I feel we need to be aware, that is not about now, tomorrow or even next year, it is about addressing the needs of future generations, our children, grand children and beyond.

This is a unique opportunity, not often afforded to a bog standard resident, but I intend to grab it with both hands whilst being polite, professional and given the chance to represent the resident. I am extremely keen to hear your views, ideas, concerns so that I can ensure they are put forward and addressed. It will be my privilege to do so.

I also feel this Housing Summit presents another unique opportunity and it must be grabbed with both hands, this unique opportunity is to raise the profile further for Sutton Hill and similar areas.

MP Iain Wright, MP Caroline Flint have previously declined my invitation to visit Sutton Hill, but I now firmly believe this Housing Summit presents an opportunity to raise their profile and set the scene in a visual manner of the Housing Summit.

As this issue is a long game, I never replied to my letter from MP Iain Wright dated 12th March 2008, but chose to wait for the right opportunity, I believe that opportunity now presents itself and have now grasped the opportunity sending the following email, my formal reply and sending another invitation to one of the few people that are ideally placed to actually do something.

My email is as follows:-

Dear Mr Ian Wright,

I am contacting yourself with regards the Telford Housing Summit and feel it is vital that MP David Wright and his office must be congratulated for the hard work they have put into this.

As you know, outside agencies will only see the final outcome but not the hours of work in the run up to it, naturally I am keen to ensure they receive the clearly deserved praise for their sterling efforts.

I would like to address your letter to myself of 12th March 2008

Ref:- P1/WR/006945/08

In which you say

“Unfortunately existing commitments and the pressure of parliamentary business makes it impossible for either of us to accept your invitation to visit Sutton Hill at this time”

You go on to say that

“£2 million to replace the centre of Sutton Hill”

I would now like to point out that these funds were initially directed to another area, that until 2007 was a Labour stronghold and is now a Conservative area.

As it is, Sutton Hill was traditionally a Labour stronghold and the Conservatives are now holding a vital seat in this ward.

This clearly indicates a swing away from Labour to the Conservatives and could see a considerable reduction in MP David Wrights Majority at the next general elections.

This view has been further supported by the visit made by MP David Cameron, PPC Tom Biggins and the Council to which you refer who are a Conservative Majority.

Whilst I believe this visit was nothing short of a photo opportunity for the Conservatives, it has to be said that the residents of this key area will see that it is Conservative members making all the right noises and moves at the right time, whilst Labour appear, again, to be leaving them to their own devices.

The reality is, MP David Cameron and his party are not in a real position to do anything of substance and not in the position to affect real change.

However, you are.

As you and or your colleagues have confirmed attendance to the Telford Housing Summit I would now like to resubmit my invitation to you to view the Sutton Hill estate.

As you know a video of the estate was placed on You Tube and you and your colleagues, including Mr.Brown received a copy. I would suggest you view that prior to your attendance.

Ok, it would extend your visit by up to an hour, but aren’t the people of Telford and Sutton Hill now worthy of your time.

My invitation, ie, this email will be placed into the public forum to display that a resident is maintaining the support previously offered to members of another community and I hope that you now accept my invitation.

Kind Regards
John Franklyn
