Bill Shaw was one of the finest British Soldiers I ever met.
He was brave, loyal, fair minded and honourable. He rose through the ranks to become a commissioned officer working for the British Embassy in Kabul and didn’t enjoy diplomatic protection, he has bee caught up in a saga of childish political retribution and the fundamental corruption endemic in Afghanistan.
In a parody of justice he was recently sentenced to imprisonment in a medieval Kabul prison.
Where is the government support for his Human rights?
There is none and it makes me extremely angry.
Evidently, good men like him don’t count.
I would plead for public support in signing an online petition for his release.

The Petition details are as follows. As an ex-serviceman, this petition has been supported by myself and family and has now been posted on various military web sites.
I would ask everyone to offer your support to this cause, simply by signing the petition at the following link.
We the undersigned, respectfully call on the Prime Minister, the Foreign Secretary and the Government of the United Kingdom to without any delay, secure the release of William Shaw MBE, from the Pul-e-Charki prison in Kabul, Afghanistan and return him to the United Kingdom. Mr Shaw was convicted and sentenced to 2 years imprisonment on 26 April 2010, in a Courtroom funded by your Government to deal with high level corruption in Afghanistan. The charges against Mr Shaw were without foundation and dealt with without thorough investigation by what could only be described as a Kangaroo Court, where the findings were pre-determined and politically motivated. William Shaw must be released and repatriated immediately; the thus far lackluster actions of the Foreign Office in allowing this miscarriage of justice to have progressed to this stage in the first case can be addressed when he is safely back home.
Councillor Pat McCarthy has raised an important issue about saying of Christian Prayers prior to council meetings in an area that probably has one the greatest culturally rich communities in the borough.
Quoting Cllr Denis Allen
“Wellington is a Christian Community”
“We are tolerant not like other religions”
“It wasn’t debated because we knew what the answer would be”
These statements alone leave us open to having to ask questions and again Cllr Denis Allen finds himself at the centre of a religious debate, not to dissimilar to the debate over the Mayoral position he held.
So, looking at these statements –
“Wellington is a Christian Community”
Yes – apart from those that are
Sunny Muslims
Shia Muslims
Athiest
Agnostic
and any other religion that resides within the community.
“We are tolerant not like other religions”
So, could Cllr Denis Allen please tell us which religions he actually refers to
“It wasn’t debated because we knew what the answer would be”
So, is this Cllr Denis Allen admitting that this topic was discussed prior to the meeting, a decision was already made prior to the debate, therefore debate being stifled and the public having their right to speak removed.
Wasn’t this a case of using procedure to hide behind.
I would now go one step further and suggest that the decision was decided prior to the meeting.
As Full Council rotate the prayers from religion to religion, why can’t Wellington Town Council do the same
or
Are Wellington Town Council just so damn arrogant that they assume everyone is of the Christian faith.
