Telford Housing Summit Report Update

As everyone is aware, the Housing Summit report was typed up by MP David Wright and I must acknowledge that MP Mark Pritchard has responded in a very clear and concise manner.

So far the Telford Housing Summit Report has been distributed to

54 Borough Councillors

26 Parish and Town Councils across the borough

All PPC’s running in the General Election have been contacted

T&W Council leader for officers to comment

Shropshire Star

BBC Radio

Telford Journal

KIP Project

WHT have been contacted

Drivers Alliance

Various Parish and Borough Councillors who requested their own copy

Available For Download on www.telfordcouncilwatch.org.uk

Residents across the borough

I feel that I can safely say that several hundred elected members and residents have had access to the report so they can comment.

I have had the pleasure of receiving a number of replies already and the input so far has been nothing short of amazing.

Many ideas have been forwarded, but some have used their own personal experiences of homelessness and repossessions to highlight failings in the housing system. Some of the experiences shared really do highlight a number of problems that need addressing.

As the general election moves forward and manifesto’s are released, it is clear that all parties are trying to recapture trust in the resident and promising to make things fairer or give more power to the community.

Aren’t these just the kind of things that we have discussed on many occasions on this web site?

Haven’t we taken some stick for our views, ideas and for being speaking out, only to find out that what were saying is now being repeated by politicians in one way or another.

Thank you to everyone who has responded, shared their ideas and experiences.

It is my intention to maintain the momentum of this report, it has taken almost four years for us to get to this stage and I genuinely believe that if our elected members can put aside their political differences, start pulling in the same direction, we ALL can help shape the borough for future generations and hopefully make a positive difference, no matter how small or large that difference maybe.

My diary is filling as more residents here of the chance they now have to have their say on issues that affect each and everyone of us.

TELFORD HOUSING SUMMIT REPORT DELIVERED

It is with great pleasure that I can inform everyone that MP David Wright has delivered draft 1 of the Telford Housing Summit Report.

The Report is entitled HOUSING NEEDS IN TELFORD

Whilst I have only had time to take a cursory glance at the report, it does appear to be very well detailed covering

Introduction

1.Housing In Telford – background

2.Housing Summit Format

3.The National Perspective – Iain Wright MP

(Parliamentary Under Secretary of State)

4.Workshop Sessions

5.Recommendations

in an initial 21 page document.

So I offer my thanks to MP David Wright for delivering the report which will enable further consultation with interested groups, councillors, RSL’s, Council Officers and most importantly residents.

If you would like your input to be included, but your comments to remain anonymous, please let me know and I will ensure that your comments are included but you are not identified.

Naturally, I would be grateful if your comments would be returned to myself, this makes it easier for administration purposes.

Before I make any further arrangements I will wait for to see how many responses I receive and then take it from there.

Thank you all those that have already responded so quickly.

Telford Housing Summit Report – Finally

Everybody is well aware of the history behind the Telford Housing Summit, so I have no need to go into this area any further.

However, it is with some pleasure that I can announce that MP David Wright has confirmed that the report will be finally delivered by Thursday 8th April 2010, I really hope that this promise is finally kept, Thursday the 8th April is the initial day to watch, if the report is not delivered,

“Dave The rave’s Party will be on”

The date for the Rave is Saturday 10th April outside the constituency office, but there is a wait out on that.

Thanks to Olly of You’ve-been-cromwelled for their support, you can visit Olly at

However, this issue now raises further questions for me.

On the 22nd March 2010 Council Leader Andrew Eade and Telford and Wrekin Chief Executive were both on Jim Hawkins show.

Fortunately, Jim Hawkins allowed myself time to raise the question of the Telford Housing Summit report with Andrew and Victor.

It was clear that they were both somewhat rattled by a simple question and diverted the topic onto the sale of the housing stock, a topic we are all well aware of.

Finally, Andrew and Victor said,

“I should raise this issue with David”

This coming from Council Leader Andrew Eade who failed to support the Housing Summit when it finally took place in 2008.

Councillor Andrew Eade and Chief Executive Victor Brownlees are either in receipt of a handsome salary or considerable expenses from the public purse,

So why has a single resident had to spend all this time and effort getting a Member of Parliament to finally keep his word?

Why couldn’t Andrew Eade as the Leader of Telford and Wrekin Council get something done?

They are both in positions of considerable authority, have a huge amount of resources at their finger tips and are more than happy to shift the responsibility onto a single resident,

WHY?

Maybe Councillor Andrew Eade would like to either furnish me with the answers either face to face or via email.

Could anybody else furnish me with an answer?

Is it any wonder that the Housing waiting list is so long?

Is it any wonder that Telford and Wrekin Council has been ranked 252nd  out of 323 councils for not meeting their housing targets?

Andrew, you promised an “open and Honest Council”

You promised “To work hand in glove with residents”

When will you finally start delivering on this promise.

One thing is certain, I will not rest until this Housing Summit Report is delivered and every resident who wants their say actually gets their say.

If that makes me unpopular, then so be it, at least I’m not braking promises whilst taking money out of the publics pockets.
