There can never be too many cooks

Bournville College has announced an extension to the Birmingham School Feast Network to include Telford and Wrekin Council and

Direct Services of Birmingham Council.

The Birmingham School Feast Network is one of 26 in England devoted to transforming the way school cooks develop the skills they need to ensure school meals are of the highest quality.

The partnership, which has been established by the School Food Trust, will train scores of kitchen staff for hundreds of schools throughout the region.

Birmingham is offering a wide range of courses, covering everything from food preparation and cooking, to support work in schools and nationally recognised qualifications at NVQ Level 2 or above.

Prue Leith, chairwoman of The School Food Trust, said: “School cooks are the unsung heroes – they are responsible for feeding millions of children every day and play a key role in the health and wellbeing of the future generation of adults.”

Paul Mellor, of the Birmingham School Feast Partnership, said: “The partnership now includes Bournville College,

direct services of Birmingham City Council as well as Telford. This will mean we are able to build on our successful teaching and training programmes currently available to support the school meals service and provide training to a much wider audience.”
