I will pledge the fiver. However I suggest we ask for a payment from those reading the Social Scene and my comments on Lord Hoop. This cutting edge commentary is abusive in the Jonathon Ross context but far more witty. As he will be paid even while suspended I suggest Hoop and I are paid so that we can give the money to John. Or send the money direct.I have an interesting piece in hand at the moment so I will leave you with this salatious thought. Cobblers

TIME TO MOVE FORWARD 2 Months ago Karma: -3
TIME TO MOVE FORWARD

Having watched the site grow from strength to strength over the past two years under John Franklyn’s beady eye I have been impressed with how things have moved forward.

However, I do believe it is time for the members to become more involved. One idea I have is regarding the cost of the site and how the money is made and what is done with it.

I believe that us as members should be at the forefront of this decision and I would like to make a suggestion.

I think we should find a venue ( for free or as cheap as possible, I already have one in mind), meet up and put forward suggestions face to face about how the site moves forward financially.

Unfortunately for John he is between a rock and a hard place. Whatever decision he makes not everybody is going to be happy so I have discussed this with John and he agrees that he steps back from this meeting and allows the members to band about ideas and thrash out any problems and as a collective agree to make the decision for him. Afterall this site is for the members.

John is happy and prepared to go along with any decision made collectively and believes this is the way forward.

I have a venue in mind which is the White Horse in Donnington. I know this is mine and Johns area but it is also the cheapest I can find. I suggest if people are agreeable that we arrange a meeting for about four weeks time but I need some guarantees of attendance before I go forward with this.

Please let me know your ideas and if you are agreeable to the idea either by posting on the site or telephoning me on 01952 676990.

Each and everyone of you are important and so are your ideas so please think carefully and let’s give it a go.

Afterall, what have we got to lose?

Thanks Guys

Pam

Pam I think it would be a idea to pick 3 pub's one in Wellington one in Donnington and one in Telford Centre.
This way you would not have to pay for a meeting room and you would cover most of Telford, and any member's who do not have a car would be able to attend.
I still think people shoud donate by cheque, if they donate by paypall TCW will have to pay 10% to paypall.
I am happy to donate and attend meeting's .

A nice idea, but you will always reach more people online than at a meeting - and if only a few people attend, there is the question of whether the proposed solution will really be the most popular.

I also think it's important that people are free to be as much or as little involved as they want. After all, there is really no definition of 'member'.

I'd prefer ideas put forward here on the site - maybe in an area for logged-in people only, no guests as it's not really their business. Then people could vote.

I'd suggest that if you've signed up to he web site rather than view without signing in you are a member.

I'll sort out an ideas area. Although I feel that a get together is a good idea and I for one much pefer it, you get to meet, talk etc and virtually you often loose emotion and so much could almost seem that someone be getting shirty when there is no intention of that happening.

If anyone else is interesting in getting together over a pint then please do.

When enough ideas come forward, then everyone can decide, but i for one am not really over struck on the idea of doing everything via the forum. I do like the idea of putting things to people face to face, so much more can be clarified in alot shorter time.

I'll sort out the area forfurther discussion.

I completely see your point John, I'm just thinking about numbers to be involved in something that's pretty important. I'm only putting forward my view, I could be in a minority of one - wouldn't be the first time

If you want to do this at a meeting, you might not get the non-drivers and even the drivers need to be a bit careful at a pub meeting.

I'll wack a couple of ideas into the Members area and see how things develop, if people then want to get together afterwards to discuss any finer points that'll be great and if we get together for a pint anyway I don't mind being a nominated driver for 3 or 4 people (i have a low tolerance for alcohol, it sees to have happened after I retired from the army, saved me a fortune though )
