Wellings meets Frater 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 41
It is rumoured that Frater could be seen off from Nottingham. This will be the third Cheif Exec they will have seen off.

It is said that lights are back on in the Frater's Bratton House, it is belived he could end up with a bung and back in Telford.

But questions do have to be asked as it alleged that Wellings is a Frater clone and why was Wellings meeting Frater on or around the 8th Fenruary 2008.

Just makes you wonder doesn't it.

How very interesting John. Only today I was told that AE and Wellings have had a big bust up.

I said it was probably the one we heard about before Christmas, but was told no, this was quite recently.

It certainly makes you wonder doesn't it!

If Wellings is as much like Frater as is reported, I for one would suggest that calls are made for his resignation.

Yes. Apparently Councillor Eade has the mad-brained idea that councillors should be in charge.

Whilst Mr Wellings holds to the notion that: "We don't do that 'round 'ere." That it should be officers telling the councillors what to do.

Just like it was in the olden days.

Only Mr Wellings has just found out it is not the olden days.

Mr Wellings wants to live in the past. Not gonna happens, Mr Wellings. Better find a nice safe Stalinist council where they do run things like Telford and Wrekin used to be run.

Sadgefield. I hear Sedgefield is a nice, little council.

Nottingham? Well, no. If you have the whiff of the Frater about you, then they might not be interested in you or your CV.

Post edited by: Matt, at: 2008/02/25 00:44

I have heard it said that Frater had a bit of finesse about him, unfortunately the cloning hasn't worked as it should, because they say of Wellings, he's an underhanded street fighter, I've even heard him referred to as a "thug in a suit"

Not really the sort of person you want in charge of a council.

I heard a lot of things about Mr Frater. None of them had anytihng to do with Finesse.

He began mouthing off at a public meeting, only to be shot down in flames by former MP for The Wrekin, Peter Wright.

Frater was able to put a gloss on his thug-like behaviour.

But people close to Frater are rumoured to have seen him with his kid gloves off. Apparently...

Yep - as a former T&W employee and union rep. I remember him well - not very good at hiding (or controlling) his temper as I recall. He had a habit of glaring at "troublemakers" in staff meetings but wasn't very good at concealing his discomfort if his glare was returned with a sustained, fixed stare from someone sitting, arms folded and poker faced in the front row.....

Indeed, he was. But Frater launched an unfair attack on someone (highly inappropriate, as it was a public but not civic reception, and Frater was only there as a guest) and Peter Bradley gave him both barrels. Much to Frater's discomfort and surprise.

It would appear that Mr Frater wrote a letter to the local evening paper, the Nottingham Evening Post, implying that his attempts to move the city council forward were being thwarted by councillors living in the past.

Naturally the city's Labour administration took exception and summoned a closed meeting to allow him to explain. Unfortunately, on the day of the meeting Mr Frater had to cry off because of flu, so the city's Labour leader was asked to meet him privately for a "clear the air" discussion.

Afterwards the council leader gave the usual public relations message about "progress having been made" which to my mind is like the football chairman's statement of "having every confidence in the manager."

So it could be that our late unlamented chief executive is in line for another pay-off. And as he is on a four year contract at £180K a year it could add up to a tidy sum.

However, nearer to home, watch out for news about another senior officer at T&W being investigated!
