Tories Plan to slash work scheme 3 Months ago Karma: 41
A conservative government would slash millions from a workplace training scheme in the borough, Telford MP David Wright warned today.

The Labour MP believes Tory plans to axe the train to gain service would see Telford and Wrekin loose £3.8 million in funding.

He sais labour will be investing more than £1 billion nationwide by 2011 through the train to gain - helping one million people get on at work.

Mr Wright said research shows 43 per cent of workers using train to gain receive a pay rise within the next year and 30 percent receive a promotion.

"this would be a real blow for workers and those requiring training to be active in the work force in telford" he said

"Workers across Britain need to be highly trained and the Government has a role to play in that along side business.

"I am shocked to learn that the opposition would cut millions of pounds of vital future funding if they ever got into power.

"What I want to know is why the Tories are prepared to cut £1 billion to help people get the the skills they need, while they are prepared to spend £1 billion on tax cuts for the 3,000 richest families.

"David Camerons Tories say they believe in fairness, but this shows where their priorities really lie"
