I may have found a solution at Wellington. I went in (I've given up trying to phone) and asked for an appointment with the nurse to get this done. They told me to come back in 10 days, so I asked to see a doctor. She had a look and said'you need your ears syringing!'. She gave me an a.s.p. note to take to reception, and they said that with that note they could give me an appointment the next day. The walk-in centre had said they just don't do it any more.

This probably seems extremely trivial to people who don't have the problem but I've offically got 'exceptionally narrow ear canals' and I've needed this procedure on and off for over 50 years. I don't like being given the runaround about it!

Am not sure if blaming 'foreignors' is the right way to go. I also get really frustrated with my Gp. Trying to get appointments for myself or the kids is virtually impossible unless I tell them its a matter of life and death. On many occassions I have had to use the walk in clinic situated at PRH but at one point was told off for using the service like my Gp surgery but like I said, what choice do I have? Usually we have to wait over a week to see a Gp and sometimes this is just too long.

Perhaps they weren't fully aware of your ailment. I would of called them back or explained to them that in 10 days time you might not be able to hear. Were they aware of your condition or did they ask why you needed to see the doctor?

Thanks, but I've tried that before. Rules is rules, apparently & trying to reason with a receptionist is a bit like trying to get any sense out of a foreign call centre. I'm just happy I seem to have found a way round the rules.

No they didn't ask, just said I could see one in 5 minutes. I didn't care who I saw, the doctor I thought was 'my' doctor seems to have left anyway and I don't go often enough to know any of them, apart from one waste of space I wouldn't see under any circumstances. He seems to be the only one of the previous ones left, wonder why?

At one time you were obliged to see your own doctor, and if s/he was away you just had to wait till they came back. Now you don't have a specific doctor. I might care if I was a frequent flyer
