KIP Project 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 38
What agreat cause this is.

They have opened a New Gift It shop in Dell Street Wellington by a group of volunteers.

People can give an wanted gift or item to be sold in aid of non-statutory homeless in the Borough.

I really hopes it is a great success.

It goes to prove what a problem we have with housing if we need to raise funds for people on the Street's. I would like to wish the charity all the best.

Oh, but they did. Until 'the great and the good' (sic) of Telford and Wrekin Labour Group decided that junkets and jollies for councillors and senior officers were much more important than provisions for the homeless.

Local autorities have no requirement to count those that are not considered staturory homeless.

At one point a senior councillor said there are no rough sleepers on the streets of Telford, this is becuse so many sleep in tents in the Town Park.

The New KIP Shop has been set up to assist those are not considered statutory homeless so the Government local and national need not do anything, not even record any statistics.

One report said recently that only 15 peopleare rough sleepers in Brmingham, so they just fudge the figures.

Local and national government only pick up a responsibility for Statutory Homeless and the KIP Project also support these in a variety of ways.

Re:KIP Project 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 15
A few months ago the then housing minister (the Dalek before Caroline Flint, I can't be bothered to Google) said that there 499 people sleeping rough nationwide. Interesting figure - not "less than a thousand", "a few hundred", "probably less than 500" but an exact figure. This from a government that had to admit that they haven't got a clue how many illegal immigrants there are in the country.
