COMMUNITY GROUPS AGAIN ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND
'YOUR COMMUNITY MATTERS' EVENT

Members of community groups in the North of Telford are once again
being encouraged to get involved ahead of the next 'Your Community
Matters' event which is being held at the Oakengates Theatre ('The
Place' on Monday 1st December.

Groups will be part of a large and dynamic market place, where they
can publicise forthcoming events and recruit new members alongside
major service providers such as West Mercia Police, West Mercia
Police Authority, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, Wrekin Housing
Trust, Telford & Wrekin Primary Care Trust and Telford & Wrekin
Council.

The event will give groups the chance to promote their work and show
off the skills and achievements of their members. As an additional
incentive, any groups that do register for the event will be sent a
VIP Welcome Pack and also be entered into a prize draw for two pairs
of tickets to Oakengates Theatre's forthcoming Christmas Pantomime -
Beauty and the Beast.

The aim of 'Your Community Matters' is to give residents from right
across North Telford - including Wrockwardine Wood, Wombridge, St
Georges, Redhill, Ketley, Priorslee, Hadley, Leegomery, Trench and
Donnington - the chance to find out more about their local services
and the unique opportunity to speak, face-to-face, with agencies that
deliver them.

With that in mind, Telford Police's Divisional Commander, Chief
Superintendent Peter Robinson, will be giving a presentation at the
event and following his presentation local residents will have the
chance to put questions to him about the policing issues that concern
them most.

Chief Inspector Peter Davies from Telford Police said:

"'Your Community Matters' is aimed at anyone living or working in
Telford and Wrekin. The first meeting looked specifically at issues
in South Telford and this time we are focusing on the North of
Telford.

"Telford Police's Divisional Commander, and members of the North's
Local Policing Teams, will be in attendance and this will be your
chance to put your concerns to them and really flag up the issues
that continue to matter to local people. We are keen to hear more
about the issues that really affect the lives of the people we serve
so I would encourage anyone with concerns they would like to raise to
come to this event and share them with us.

"To help reflect what really is going on in North Telford we would
also like to invite local community groups to put themselves forward
to participate in this event because we feel there will be huge
benefits if local people become even more involved.

"Therefore, if you run a community group in North Telford and would
like the chance to publicise and show off your work at the event,
please get in touch with us. We will do all we can to find space for
you to display the services your group offers and how people can get
more involved.

"By working together we really can improve the opportunities that are
available to the people of the Borough. For that reason the input of
community groups will be just as important as the input of the major
service providers if we are to ensure that Telford and Wrekin
continues to be a safe place to live and work."

The 'Your Community Matters' event for North Telford will take place
at Oakengates Theatre on Monday 1st December and runs from around 3pm
until around 7.30pm. To register your interest in taking part, please
contact Fiona Moore on 01952 382 245 or Caz Platt on 01952 382 132 as
soon as possible to reserve your place.

Notes to editors: West Mercia Constabulary has launched a new
non-emergency telephone number that is cheaper and just as easy to
remember: 0300 333 3000. The new number replaces 08457 444 888,
however this number will still be available should anyone not be
aware of the change.

Please phone us with any information or reply by
