£16,000 GRANT FOR TELFORD & WREKIN CAB

The Telford and Wrekin Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CA has recently received a grant of £16,000 from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales through its Community Programme.

The charity based in the Ketley Business Park offers a wide range of advice services to residents across Telford and Wrekin. As well as offering services from their main office, they run weekly surgeries in Madeley and Stirchley, and weekly outreach clinics across the area in Newport, Hadley, Woodside, Wellington and Donnington. The charity also provides advice at the one stop shop centre recently established in the town centre library by Telford and Wrekin Council that operates Monday to Friday, with drop-in advice sessions on Thursday evenings and Saturdays.

The CAB depend extensively on their large pool of volunteers and the grant will support a part-time guidance tutor to provide training and support for new volunteer advisers and to develop a new adviser training programme. The volunteers will all be taken through the CAB accredited Generalist Advice qualification.

Lyn Brayne, the Service Director of CAB - Telford & The Wrekin said,

“We are very dependent on the support of our volunteers to be able to respond to the demands from the community for advice and to be able to take the service out to the community. This funding will help us to ensure that we can provide the best possible training for our volunteers so they can provide a quality service to the community”
