Wonderful times in store

It is not going to be Alice in Wonderland but Arleston during a family fun event in Telford tomorrow.

And councillors, police officers and community workers will be getting into the spirit of the day by dressing up as characters from Lewis Carroll’s classic tale.

The community event is scheduled to take place at The Watling Centre, Arleston, Wellington, between noon and 4pm.

Councillor Angela McClements, who will be the white rabbit for the event, said: “I’m looking forward to the event, especially getting dressed up.

“I’m always running late for events, so I think I fit the character well, although my colleague Councillor Mary Lewis perhaps might not agree with my analogy, as she is the Mad Hatter.

“This will be a fun event for all the family with lots of children’s activities, including an Easter egg hunt, Easter bonnet/fancy dress parade, with prizes and certificates for the winners and participants.

“So please come along and join us during the school Easter break, in what promises to be a great afternoon out for all the family.”

For further information call Maddy Barlow, one of the organisers, on (01952) 382180.

Hmmmm, they shouldn't have too much of a problem getting into character. Mind you, given the presence of plainclothes (OK fancy dress) policemen the one playing Alice had better watch their step with the bottle labeled "drink me" - "a Class A drug if I'm not mistaken, Dormouse, sorry, sergeant Knacker".

There is a rumour circulating (I know, because I started it!) that they're going to hold a "1984" themed fun day in St Georges. Perhaps we could have a poll on here for the target of the Mass Hate? (sorry Carol, you've only got one vote for Richard O.).

Meanwhile excitement is mounting on Woodside as preparations are well advanced for their forthcoming "Apocalypse Now" weekend.

Questions are being asked about some aspects of this cultural extravaganza - no one was available to comment at Oakengates Town Hall/Theatre/The Place/Konkretin Keith's Kolosseum of Komedy on their proposed schools' production of "Last Tango in Paris"

Yes Hoop St Georges is having a fun day with the theme being all creatures great and small, Richard is playing the part of a snake { no costume required, saving the tax payer loads }.

Angela a white rabbit and Mary Lewis the Mad Hatter?

Wasn't Mary Lewis the woman who claimed that some children had been frightened by the cadet parading with rifles? (The claim was refuted by others at the event, however...)

When it was pointed out to her that the Wellington Methodist Church Boy's Brigade "tune lite" marching banned that marched, brayed and beat their drums through Wellington on the First Sunday of each month were just as militaristic as the cadets she become quite nasty, or so I am told!

Post edited by: Matt, at: 2008/03/28 05:34
